Cossham Hospital – Two-Story Extension

Back

Working with the North Bristol NHS Trust (NHS), Provelio their Project Managers, Edmond Shipway and Kendall Kingscott, John Perkins Construction completed a two-story extension to Cossham Hospital, Bristol.

The extension to the existing Hospital was undertaken to house a new permanent MRI machine, a next generation Siemens 3T Tesla MRI Scanner, as well as the existing CT Scanner. Creating a permanent facility for the benefit of local residents around the Kingswood area of Bristol, on behalf of North Bristol NHS Trust.

The two-story extension to the Diagnostic Imaging Department was multi-faceted in its objectives. The new building needed to accommodate both an MRI and CT scanner, as well as the support accommodation needed to run this equipment at ground floor level and provide essential space for the plant equipment, which on this constricted site had to be located in a newly constructed basement. Furthermore, the facility required patient amenities such as waiting rooms, changing rooms and WC’s. Additionally included in the design were areas for administration and technical areas. John Perkins Construction were also contracted to re landscape the area around the new building. A special feature was made out of one of the exterior walls. The design was carried out by Bristol artist Rodney Harris, to form the vision of sash windows. Rodney hand carved each brick off site and numbered each one, he then supervised our bricklayers to lay the bricks in the correct sequence once they were delivered to site, creating a totally unique element to this building.

It was a real pleasure to be in integral part of delivering such a superb project, which will deliver such critical facilities to the community and help the NHS continue their invaluable work.
