This was a great opportunity for John Perkins Construction to continue their work with Coleg Gwent, one of Wales’ top performing colleges, having been selected as one of their framework contractors.
Working with Coleg Gwent over two of their campus’, we were tasked with the renewal of significant areas of the college’s roofs.
The work was accomplished over 15 weeks, with the project sites needing to be accessible for the resumption of classes in September.
Work on B-block, the City of Newport Campus, commenced in April 2023. This refurbishment project required us to install overlay of new bituminous felt across the roof and additional insulation. We also installed improved upstands and kerb details. By employing an innovative edge protection process around the roof, John Perkins Construction were able to avoid full scaffolding around the building, reducing community disruption and saving our client money.
Work on the T-Block Refectory at the Crosskeys Campus commenced in June 2023. This part of the project required a rapid removal of the existing roof, for the building to be operational by September. We designed scaffolding and provided a temporary roof in such a way to ensure that the Refectory could open for business for the start of the new term, whilst we completed installing the new roofing system.
We are pleased to be continuing to build our relationship with Coleg Gwent and working with the college for the remaining term of the framework. We look forward to seeing what opportunities the summer brings.
